Investment Management/Man Co – Market Update Q4 2020

Everybody working in the Irish Funds Industry is aware of the impact Brexit has had on the market. With over 50 Investment firms setting up in Ireland, the demand of qualified candidates currently outstrips supply.
This has been compounded by the recent review (Dear CEO) letter issued from the Central Bank, which will have a big impact on Self-Managed Investment Funds and pre-Brexit authorised Mancos.

Recruitment Activity:

The final quarter of 2020 was fast paced with candidate confidence levels remaining high, despite current market conditions.

Below is a list of firms who hired externally in Quarter 4.

  • DMS – Director Investment Management.
  • Barings – Head of Risk.
  • Equity Trustees – Senior Manager Fund Risk.
  • KB Associates – Group CFO.
  • GoodBody Fund Management – Head of Fund Risk.
  • Pimco – is establishing a new Irish Headquarters and have been very active. They have hired several VP’s across Shareholder Services, Investment Compliance and Fund Governance.
  • Prescient Fund Services – Head of Investment Management Oversight.
  • Marathon Asset Management – Financial Controller.
  • KBI Global Investors – Senior Performance & Risk Analyst

Market Trends:

In the final quarter of 2020, there was several acquisitions and we witnessed the consolidation of the 3rd Party Management Company Space.

Below is a list of acquisitions that were announced in Quarter 4.

  • Frankfurt-based Universal-Investment buys Metzler Ireland for an undisclosed sum. Metzler Ireland Limited (MIL) is an Irish fund management and fund administration company.
  • Apex Group has acquired FundRock Management Company SA and FundRock Partners Ltd (FundRock).
  • Davy Global Fund Management, the management company business of Davy Group has bought Novacap Asset Management, a third-party fund management company based in Luxembourg.
  • International asset management consultancy, MJ Hudson, has acquired Bridge Group, a funds service provider based in Ireland, conditional on Irish regulatory approval.
  • Investment fund management company Casa4Funds has been bought by the Link Group.
  • Fund manager Appian Asset Management is to be acquired by UK-based alternative asset manager Gresham House.
